A simple four-part pattern that keeps prayer God-centered before it becomes list-centered.
Begin with worship. Praise God for who He is — His holiness, majesty, sovereignty, and love.
"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise." — Psalm 100:4
Agree with God about sin. Name it, forsake it, and receive His cleansing.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins." — 1 John 1:9
Thank Him for what He has done — saving grace, daily bread, answered prayer, unnoticed mercies.
"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." — 1 Thess 5:18
Then bring your requests — for yourself, for others, for the lost, for the church.

Hindrances to Prayer
If prayer feels like it hits the ceiling, check the heart first.
"If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me."
"Your iniquities have separated between you and your God."
"Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."
